2018 Welcome & AGM

By | News | No Comments

Dear Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new families to our preschool. We look forward to be in partnership with you all throughout 2018.

Our preschool is a Social Enterprise within our local community (Not-for Profit) and you are all members of this Enterprise while your child is in attendance at the preschool. This means that you all have the wonderful opportunity to be an active member of our Management Committee for 2018.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday evening of the 28th February, 2018 at 7:00pm, you are invited to attend and learn more about the workings of the preschool and consider joining the Management Team. All positions will be open on the evening for new Management Members to be voted in and take up the roles for 2018.

If you are considering being part of our new Management Committee for 2018 we are holding an information evening on Wednesday 21st February, 2018 at 7:00pm. This will be an information event that will provide you with the latest information on what it means to be part of the Narooma Preschool Social Enterprise, the Roles and Responsibilities of each Management Committee position and a review of our Constitution. We hope that this evening will support families by providing them with positive information that will highlight the wonderful advantages of being part of a Community based Preschool.

If you are interested in attending please contact the office by email, phone or in person.

We look forward to sharing this evening with you.

Kind Regards,

Kathy Phipps – Director, Narooma Preschool

How to fight a festive war on waste at Christmas

By | News | No Comments

The 12 DOs of Christmas are twelve simple positive actions that everyone can use to help fight the festive war on waste.

Some top tips from Planet Ark include:

  • Give thoughtful gifts – choose an experience or charity gift or take your recipient on a shopping date.
  • Buy second hand or recycled – shoppers who want to celebrate the circular economy this Christmas are encouraged to visit Planet Ark’s new directory of products made from recycled materials.
  • Full tummy empty bins – prevent food waste by planning ahead with a list and sticking to it. Compost or worm farm your unavoidable food scraps.
  • Electrifying recycling – recycle old mobile phones, printer cartridges, computers and tablets that get replaced.
  • Recycle Right – ensure all that Christmas eggnog and custard packaging is recycled – Tetra Pak reports that they sell 30 times more of these products in December, and thankfully most Australians can recycle cartons in their kerbside bins.
  • ‘Tis the season to declutter – whether it’s home renovation waste or a summer clean out, more skip bins are ordered at this time of year. Look for a company like Bingo Industries that can recycle a high proportion of construction or demolition

For more waste saving and recycling tips for the festive season visit 12DOs.planetark.org and RecyclingNearYou.com.au.

Transition to School Program 2018

By | News | No Comments

We are starting our Transition to School Daily Program here at the preschool for all children who will be starting school in 2018. We would like to encourage all families to drop their children off at preschool just before 9:00am so we can prepare the children for the school drop-off. We will then start indoors and work through our transition activities before morning tea.

Children who are not going to school in the new year will start their day outdoors and will engage in their regular preschool program.
